Information:
Help Me Make It Through the Night was written by Kris Kristofferson and Fred Foster, and first recorded by Sammi Smith (Mega 615-0015) in early 1971. Her recording was a number one country hit and million-seller. It reached #8 on the Hot 100 chart. Help Me Make It Through the Night was awarded two Grammys for 1971: Best Country Vocal Performance (Female) and Best Country Song. Other popular recordings of the song include those by Joe Simon (Spring 113), O.C. Smith (Columbia 45435), both in 1971, and Gladys Knight and The Pips (Soul 35094) in 1972. Help Me Make It Through the Night served as the theme song to the 1972 John Huston-directed film, Fat City, and the short-lived 1987 TV series, Fat City, which was based on the film. 

Elvis recorded Help Me Make It Through the Night on May 17, 1971, at RCA’s Nashville Studios. The instrumental track had been recorded the previous day.
